RECLAIMING YOUR POWER
ASHLEY HENDERSON – ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL SPECIALIST
The heat is upon us, and power outages. It happens far more often than we like…triple digit weather wilting both the plants and people alike, and a fully stocked fridge full of popsicles left melting in the wake of yet another power outage. And if the fourth of July weekend has taught us anything, it’s that we never know how long the power is going to be out. With odds like that, it’s no wonder people are stacking the deck in their favor by installing generators or solar with batteries. Whether you want a generator, solar ro energy storage systems, you will need to submit your plans to the Environmental Control Committee for approval.
For your convenience, you can submit all projects online at:
https://www.pinemountainlake.com/ecc-project-submittal-process/
The committee will want a plot plan showing the exact location and dimensions of the solar, generator or battery (including all setbacks and septic), and the Tuolumne County permit. While the power outages will never come at a convenient time, I think we all recognize that doing our part to help mitigate fire hazards is incredibly important. That being said, parts of generators can get hot, so it is especially important to keep all flammable materials away from your generator—make sure all dead vegetation is removed around your generator. As always, I am here to help walk you through every step of the submission process. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions. ecc@pinemountainlake.com

Thank you for the champagne Bonnie! Most importantly thank you for a wonderful experience and service that you both provided for the installation of the generator. I know it was very time consuming but we really appreciate that it was installed and on the 6th of July the power shut down and without skipping a beat the generator kicked on.
Gaurav
We recently bought our home at Pine Mountain Lake in Groveland. Tom Hugget and yes & Bonnie came recommended and they did not disappoint. On the contrary, they were wonderful in managing the complete process including all the permitting / paperwork; in all we did not have to worry about a thing. It was like a turnkey project which was executed really well.
Thanks Tom & Bonnie!

I have already recommended SOL to my neighbor. The installation was quick and efficient. The new generator was ‘tested’ 5 times by power outages before it even passed final inspection. It worked as expected without issues.

Due to the unstable electrical grid lately, we decided to install a full house generator to our home at Pine Mountain. In checking for a contractor, we located Tom Huggett at SOL Training who specialized in all phases of emergency/off the grid power. From my first contact with Tom, we found that he was professional and detail oriented, always explaining each step of the process, including handling all the permits from PMLA and the County. He has put together a terrific team for the installation process, including the electrical and plumbing issues as well as the site preparation. They were all very professional and left the property in excellent shape. He coordinated all of the work at the house, always being available to meet with the team during the installation process. Once the system was installed, he followed through with the final inspections, testing and provided a good explanation of the equipment. Finally, one day after the final install, we had a power outage. The system worked perfectly and Tom made it a point to contact me and check that all was good. Without question, I would recommend Tom and his team for your project should you decide to install a backup generator to your home.John & Kathleen PML

I am so glad my Pastor put me in touch with Tom Huggett. I seriously needed a generator.Mr. Huggett informed me of all it would do and answered all questions, about installing. Everything was so organized, he’s put together a very professional team of electricians and propane people. They work together so well and are knowledgeable about their part of the installation.I could recommend them without hesitation. All were polite and thoughtful. What a pleasure to deal with people of skill and integrity! That seems to be in short supply today.Sincerely, Lorna Cavener P.S. Inspectors from the county spoke highly of their work.

La instalación estuvo perfecta y en tiempo, Pine Mountain Lake, CA.Tom & Terri Madrid, Sonora
Tom’s customer service skills were beyond outstanding. He followed through the entire process to completion, we didn’t have to lift a finger!
Thank you Tom Hugget!
Elaine
I didn’t have to lift a finger. Tom sourced the right size generator for my house, processed all the paperwork with the county and the HOA, managed the install with the electrician and worked with the propane company to get that installed within the same week. They also updated my main panel and installed a dedicated line for the hot tub. There was an issue with the box and the tub being incompatible and Tom went above and beyond to resolve the issue. Again, no finger lifting on my part. He showed up in under 5 minutes to check out the issue then had his electrician there in another 5 mins! Tom managed the communications between the hot tub dealer and electrician, sourced the proper parts and got it fixed. He might have even taken the box out of his own house just to get ours going! It was a huge deal that the hot tub was in operation by a certain date and Tom came through for us. Tom is extremely responsive to my questions – from our first conversation to the last. The work was completed quickly and the property was cleaned up afterwards. I highly recommend his services to anyone looking to install a generator, update an electrical panel and update outlets. Peace of mind is important to me and I have that now.
Thank you Tom!

We were lucky to find Tom to lead us through the process of deciding which model Generac to purchase and install. We had previously talked to several other installers but after talking to Tom we discovered it was a loy more to an installation than just plugging it in.

The Enphase Energy System now offers generator support through the IQ System Controller 3G. This integration allows you to seamlessly combine solar, storage, and a compatible generator for uninterrupted power during extended grid outages. Here are the key features:
AC Architecture: The Enphase system, powered by industry-leading microinverters, eliminates single points of failure. When connected to a generator, it ensures maximum power to your home.
No Power Loss: When your system goes off-grid or the battery charge is low, the generator kicks in without any interruption. You won’t experience power loss during critical moments.
Compatible Generators: The IQ System Controller 3G works with most AC generators installed in the United States. No external automatic transfer switch is needed. You can find a list of compatible generators in the forthcoming tech brief1.
Remote Control: Manage your generator remotely using the Enphase App. Start and stop the generator, view real-time power flow, schedule quiet time, and activate vacation mode—all from your smartphone.
Dedicated DER Port: The IQ System Controller 3G features a dedicated DER port specifically for connecting a generator. This port cannot be used for PV or battery connections.
If you’re considering adding a generator to your Enphase system, the IQ System Controller 3G is the way to go. For those planning to expand with extra batteries, the IQ System Controller 3 is a better fit12. Enjoy reliable power even during outages!

Enphase Generator Integration
Enphase microinverters can be integrated with generators to provide backup power during grid outages. Here's how it works:
Compatibility:
Ensure that your Enphase microinverters are compatible with the generator you intend to use.
Generator Interface Kit:
Install the Enphase Generator Interface Kit, which includes a transfer switch and other necessary components.
Wiring:
Connect the generator to the Generator Interface Kit and the Enphase microinverters as per the manufacturer's instructions.
Configuration:
Configure the Enphase system to recognize the generator as a backup power source. This may involve setting priority rules and adjusting system parameters.
Operation:
During a grid outage, the generator will automatically start and supply power to the Enphase microinverters.
The microinverters will convert the AC power from the generator into grid-compatible AC power, which can then be used to power your home's electrical loads.
Benefits of Enphase Generator Integration:
>Backup Power: Provides reliable backup power during grid outages, ensuring essential appliances and systems remain operational.
Energy Independence: Allows you to generate and use your own electricity, even when the grid is down.
Grid Support: Can contribute to grid stability by reducing peak demand during outages.
Enhanced Resilience: Improves the resilience of your home or business against power disruptions.
Note:
The size of the generator required will depend on the power needs of your home and the electrical loads you want to support during an outage.
Proper installation and configuration are crucial for safe and efficient operation. It is recommended to consult with a qualified electrician for professional assistance.
